WHAT IS A SPEED OVEN?

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

If you have never heard of a speed oven, I'm betting you will want to add one to your kitchen ASAP. A speed oven functions as an oven and a microwave. It cooks faster than a standard oven (like a microwave), but with convection. Often times we forgo a traditional microwave or drawer microwave for a speed oven since it doubles as a microwave and an oven and a few other functions I'll share below as well.

Here are some of the benefits of a speed oven:

Cooks faster

The halogen lighting systems with radiant and ceramic cooking elements combined with microwave technology allow you to cook 2-8 times faster than a conventional oven without preheating. Did you catch that? ZERO preheat on your oven!!!

Versatility

Some speed cookers even offer 5 functions all in 1. They function as a convection oven, toaster oven, warming/proofing oven, precision cooking oven, and a microwave. Bye bye toaster, pizza oven, toaster oven and all those space stealing countertop appliances.

Pre-programmed recipes

You can choose from a wide variety of pre-programmed recipes for easy setting of temperatures and cooking times. You can literally pop an item in the speed cooker, enter a few details and it will cook, crisp or warm to perfection. I've even heard people warm up day old fries and they are still good!

Custom recipes

It allows you to save your very own cooking directions for your own favorite recipes. This is such a great way to keep some of your fave recipes handy. Especially on busy days when you don't know what to cook!

Here we have pictured the Cafe Advantium. This particular speed oven does have all 5 functions. And it comes in a 30" size to match the wall oven below. It also comes in various colors which makes it a unique option for any kitchen design! See more photos HERE.

Here we installed Thermador's Speed Oven. It is sitting right above the Thermador wall oven so it is a very similar installation. I'm attaching a photo below of the interior to give you an idea of the cavity size. It is on the smaller side, but that's how the technology is programmed. Imagine cooking a whole chicken in 25 minutes! See more photos of this kitchen HERE.

If you've been following along, you know I recently returned from the SKS EDC. This is LG's education center in Napa. They too have a speed cooker. They have actually combined their 30" wall oven and their speed cooker to create their 30" Combi Wall Oven. See below.

You can see it is integrated into one unit with one set of controls at the top. They too have the 5-in-1 technology and have a great line of products with a professional aesthetic. We had the opportunity to cook dessert in their speed oven and HERE is a library of recipes from Chef Nick.

I'll share one last speed cooker and that is the Monogram Advantium. I had the privilege of attending their experience center in Chicago to learn more about their technology. I loved seeing the appliances in action and cooking with Chef Jon! You can see all of Chef John's recipes and demos HERE.

I hope you found this helpful and educational. As always, we are happy to help guide you in your upcoming kitchen renovation. If you'd like to chat, you can book your complimentary discovery call HERE. We love designing kitchens that are highly functional and absolutely beautiful! Happy cooking!
